Our Vision
Equatoria Farms envisions a future where sustainable agriculture serves as a foundation for development, education, and empowerment in South Sudan.
By cultivating skills, fostering economic independence, and strengthening international bonds, we aim to nurture growth from the seeds of friendship. Together, we aspire to transform optimism into opportunity, building a partnership that celebrates both heritage and progress.

Supporting the Women
Equatoria Farms is dedicated to creating equal opportunities for women by ensuring access to education, empowering them to manage and cultivate resources, and offering meaningful roles in farm management.
OUR STORY
South Sudan faces a dire food security crisis, with over 7 million people—more than half the population—classified as food insecure, and 1.65 million children malnourished. Prolonged conflict, displacement, and economic instability have made self-sufficient farming nearly impossible, leaving the nation heavily reliant on imports and humanitarian aid, primarily from the World Food Program (WFP), which assists millions annually.
Decades of violence, including a 50-year civil war, have devastated infrastructure and displaced communities. Women face additional barriers, with widespread violence limiting their access to education and economic opportunities.
Despite efforts by NGOs, sustainable solutions have been elusive. Many projects fail to address systemic issues such as women's empowerment, infrastructure, and local capacity-building, underscoring the urgent need for innovative, community-driven approaches like those envisioned by Equatoria Farms.
The farm lies in a vast savannah at the base of the Lopit Mountains in Eastern Equatoria State, a semi-arid region where the rainy season lasts just long enough to grow crops like sorghum. However, inconsistent rainfall poses challenges to achieving commercial-scale yields. To address this, Equatoria Farms has partnered with the University of Idaho, a leading U.S. agricultural institution, to implement advanced dryland farming techniques, optimizing water use and improving crop productivity in this challenging environment.
Our early efforts are already bearing fruit. Construction is underway on a farming compound with housing for workers and a garage for tractors and equipment. In 2023, the team successfully cultivated 50 acres and celebrated our modest first harvest of sorghum—a promising start on a farm that spans over 3,000 acres.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are drilling two wells: one to provide clean water for workers and sustain a vegetable garden, and the other to pilot a drip irrigation system aimed at boosting sorghum yields.
To Nourish Generations to Come
With each acre cultivated and each well drilled, we move closer to creating a legacy of growth and resilience. Together with our South Sudanese partners, we are working steadily to build something that will nourish generations to come—a thriving farm, a stronger economy, and a brighter future for all.
EQUATORIA FARMS
We have a long-term plan to develop a sustainable commercial farm that will house the training center, provide food security, and build capacity for agricultural production throughout the region.
